Like nearly every other place in the world, Opequon Creek is not immune to the encroachment of invasive species. Recognition of these invasive species is the first step in removing them. Invasive species have the potential to be incredibly harmful to their environments and disruptive to local ecosystems. They compete with native species for natural resources and, in extreme cases, can result in the extirpation of the species. By simply understanding what an invasive species is, we can help to prevent it from happening in the future and work to restore our environments today.
